Prof. Kiran.C.Shindhe has been in the Institution since 1983 for the past 34 years. In this long period of service he has worked as a teacher, researcher and administrator. He has graduated in Mechanical Engineering in the year 1982 from Karnataka University Dharwad. He has a post graduate degree in Machine Design from IIT Bombay. In the roll as administrator he has worked as Head of the Department, Dean Student Welfare and presently working as Dean Infra structure and Planning and Development.
Academics
He has been teaching Machine design subject and has guided all the students in designs of their projects. With the association of INFOSYS he has introduced industry relevant electives such as Introduction to Aircraft Industry and Design of Aircraft structures. He has worked as chief coordinator of engineering evaluations and headed many committees.
He has been associated with Infosys in its Campus connect program and underwent Faculty development program in Design of Aircraft structures. As a result of introducing this subject in curriculum satisfactorily, he was selected as a student team mentor for the International Aircraft Design competition named as “Spirit Global design competition” for three years. Our college was a part of the international teams which participated and won 1st and 3rd prizes in this competition held in Whichita Kansas USA. INFOSYS India and SPIRIT aero structures USA funded this completion.
TEQIP- participation
He has played an active role in TEQIP – Phase –I of the college as Nodal officer for Community service. He has been responsible for arranging skill upgradation training for Potters and developing a pottery wheel which can work on single phase AC. He is responsible for organizing a novel training programme for the jail inmates of Dharwad district jail inmates in carpentry and welding. The judiciary has reduced the sentence of the inmates who have undergone this training. This initiative has been appreciated by the TEQIP National Project Implementation Unit (NPIU). In the Initial period of TEQIP- Phase 1.2 he was the Nodal officer for Equity Assurance.
Research
He has worked as Research collaborator in an unique International Multi- Disciplinary Research project funded by Department for International Development (DFID) UK. The project was entitled “ Peri- Urban Interface Studies” for a period of 5 years. The project focused on study of Impacts on rural areas as a city expands. As a result of this project he has presented paper in Imperial college of London and written a monograph on Impact of land use. He is associated with researchers from Universities of Wales, Birmingham and University of Agricultural Science.
He was also co-investigator in AICTE TAPTEC funded project on Study of Rain water harvesting in Kuan of Rajasthan. His current interests are in the area of OBE and accreditation he has also publications in this area.
As dean Infrastructure and Planning he is in charge of Campus Infrastructure development and maintenance. He is facilitating the Purchases of departments and sections and in charge of stores and. He is responsible for collating and presenting the college budget.

Dr. S.B.Vanakudre completed his bachelors from JSS Science and Technology University or previously known as Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (also known as SJCE) and went on to pursue his Masters in structural engineering at Walchand College of Engineering. He was later awarded his doctorate in Structures from VTU, Belgavi. His wide array of experience includes a couple of years serving in the Industry as a consultant and has over 29 years of experience in teaching at SDM. He started his teaching career as an assistant professor in the civil department. He later on elevated as the Head of Department (HOD) of the Civil Department. He was subsequently given the role of Dean of Infrastructure and Planning. He was a member of the Local Inquiry Committee (LIC) and the research committee. He has been a part of SDM society for more than two decades serving in various capacities.
He has designed over 400 RCC & Steel Structures. He has submitted many technical reports to Government and private agencies over the years. He was on the many technical committees constituted by Government of Karnataka. From 2000 to 2003, he rendered services to CAPART as a facilitator and evaluator in undertaking cost effective construction technology funded by Central Government. Structural Consultancy and Material testing, Mix design of concrete and NDT of structures; meanwhile he also served as structural consultant to many organizations. His area of interests being Reliability Analysis and Design of Structures, Mechanics of Deformable Bodies. He has taught several subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Dr. S.B.Vanakudre has guided more than 40 UG projects and 23 PG projects. Currently 3 students are pursuing their Ph.D. under his guidance in different areas of Civil Engineering. He has penned more than 30 research publications in National and International journals, conferences, and seminars in broad areas of proportion of concrete mixes, rehabilitation and restoration of buildings, different approaches for the analysis of aggregates, analysis and design of different types of steel tresses, seismic evaluation of structures, evaluation of shear walled RCC buildings, finite element analysis of historic buildings and on many such relevant topics. Apart from teaching and research he is a regular speaker on domain specific and general engineering related lectures in several conferences, pedagogical trainings and workshops.
Dr.Gopinath an academician par excellence has been working with SDMCET since 1987. Apart from Teaching and Research he has also been actively involved in various administrative and cultural activities of our college. He is presently serving as the Dean of Student Welfare since 2011. He is also a Member of Academic Council of the College.
Prof Dr. K .Gopinath is Doctorate of Engineering from VTU and M.Tech from NIT Suratkal. He graduated with a Bachelor’s in Engineering from Karnataka University. He has published and presented various papers in National and International Journals on Heat and Mass Transfer, Fluid Machines and Turbines. He was the Principal Investigator for the TAPTEC project. He is also a member of the Standing Committee responsible for the implementation of TEQIP 1.2, A World Bank Sponsored Fund.
Dr. K Gopinath, Dean Student Welfare has been responsible for all the cultural and sports activities in the campus. He is also responsible for the code of conduct and the decorum that has to be maintained throughout the campus. Dr. K Gopinath has also been actively involved in overall administration of the college. Under the guidance and leadership of Dr. Gopinath the college organizes Insignia every year, a Mega Techno-Cultural Event in which more than 3000 students from all over India participate in 80 events.
Dr. Gopinath served as a Public Relations Officer since 2003.Hs has been working efficiently as an interface between the college, press and public at large. During his tenure a student council has been formed to act as a bridge between Students and Teaching community. This serves as a platform for addressing academic and staff student relationship issues.
Dr. Gopinath has been nominated as L.I.C member and subject expert responsible for awarding affiliation and recognition of various VTU Colleges. Many a times he has been a VTU nominee for faculty recruitment in various Engineering Colleges affiliated to VTU. He was also deputed to Mauritius to ensure smooth conduct of VTU examination.
Prof. A.V.Kulkarni has been Dean (Administration) at SDM College of Engineering & Technology Dharwad, since June 2017. He holds B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from KREC, Surathkal and M.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He served as R&D Engineer in Ductron Castings Limited Hyderabad before joining SDM College of Engineering & Technology in 1986. He has been teaching Mechanical Engineering at SDM College of Engineering &Technology for more than 30 years. Currently he is also a Professor of Mechanical Engineering. His fields of Interest are solid mechanics, computational methods in engineering and engineering education.
He taught courses at both UG and PG level and has guided several M.Tech. Theses. He is coauthor of the book “Primer on Finite elements method” published by Laxmi Publications Delhi, 2011and subsequently by Mercury Learning & Information 2013. He has carried out testing and consultancy works for Orysis Dharwad, KMF Dharwad, A.K Industries Hubli, etc.
He has rendered service at SDM College of Engineering & Technology in various positions such as member of Governing Council, Standing Committee & Academic Council, IQAC Coordinator, Academic Coordinator, TEQIP Nodal Officer, Chief Warden of Hostels, etc. He also served as member of Board of Studies, DUGC, DPGC and BOE in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
He has conducted several workshops on Effective Teaching and organized couple of workshops on Quality Teaching. He received Best Teacher Award twice, in 2008 and 2009 at SDMCET. He also got the recognition for the leadership activities after attending the 2008 Indo-US Engineering Faculty Leadership Institute at the Infosys Mysore Center. He is a Life Member of Indian Society of Technical Education (MISTE) and Member of The Institution of Engineers (India).
Prof. H. Vijay Murthy completed his engineering graduation in Electrical Power stream from the Government BDT College of Engineering, Davanagere, in 1981 and joined the esteemed SDM College of Engineering & Technology, Dharwad, as a Lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering in the same year.
He obtained his post-graduation in 1989 in ‘Power Systems’ from National Institute of Engineering, Mysore University, Mysore. During his long service as teacher, he also has shouldered various responsibilities as a Coordinator for College Transport System, Head of Electrical Maintenance Section, Chief Coordinator of Industry-Institute Partnership Cell, Chief Warden of the SDMCET hostels, Head of the Electrical Engineering Department, Member of Academic Council, Member of Board of Studies of Karnataka University, Member of KPSC syllabus review committee in 2001, Recruitment Committee Member of Goa University, GPSC, Goa. He has reviewed books on electrical engineering and has technical papers to his credit.
He also contested for Karnataka University Senate.
He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India) since 2003. He was an Executive Committee Member of the Institution of Engineers (India), Dharwad Local Centre from November 1998 to October 2000. During his tenure, he was responsible for bringing back the status of examination center for Dharwad & also acted as Officer in-charge of AMIE Examinations at the Centre. He was the Member of the Editorial Committee of the news bulletin of the center, ‘ET-TALK’.
He has exceptionally good leadership and organizational capabilities. Being dynamic, he is also an active life member of ISTE and social institutions like, Mitra Samaj, Rehabilitation Centre for mentally retarded persons in Dharwad city.
Presently he is the Dean (III), shouldering the mammoth responsibility of Industrial Interactions for the college.
Prof. Dinesh Ballullaya, Controller of Examination Graduated from Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering, Mysore in the Year 1981 obtaining 9th rank to Mysore University. Obtained his M.E from P.S.G college of Technology in the year 1987 with highest marks in stream Electrical Machines.
Prof Dinesh has more than 32 years of teaching at SDMCET, Dharwad. He has been teaching Electrical Machines Design, Network Analysis, Power System Analysis and Stability etc.
Apart from teaching he has also worked in various administrative positions. He served as chief warden of SDMCET hostel for 10 years. He also worked as HOD Electrical & Electronics Engineering dept. for 2 1/2 years. Presently he is working as Dean Evaluation.
Dr. Ramesh L. Chakrasali is presently working as a Professor in the Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, SDM College of Engineering &Technology Dharwad. He obtained his B.E. (Electrical) and M.E. (Digital Electronics) from SDM College of Engineering and Technology, Dharwad, affiliated to Karnataka University, Dharwad. He was awarded his Ph.D. from Visvesvaraya Technological University Belgaum, in the field of renewable energy sources based standalone micro hybrid grid.
Dr. Ramesh Chakrasali has 25 years of teaching experience. He is a fellow of IE (I), IETE and life member of ISTE. His area of interests being power system SCADA, Digital Electronics and Testing and Commissioning of Electrical Equipment and Utilization of Electrical Power. He teaches subjects like Digital Electronics, Digital System Design using VHDL, Computer Networks, and Power System SCADA etc.
Dr. Ramesh has guided more than 40 UG projects and 4 PG projects. Currently 7 students are pursuing their Ph.D. under his guidance in different areas of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
He has published two papers in Elsevier International Journal and three in other international journals. He also has published one paper in national journal and presented 6 papers in national and international conferences.
He has also authored three books viz Basic Electrical engineering, Testing and Commissioning of Electrical Equipment and Electrical Power Utilization. He has coauthored a book on The Constitution of India and Professional Ethics.
Apart from teaching and research he is a regular speaker on domain specific and general engineering related lectures in several conferences, pedagogical trainings and workshops. He also acted as a resource person in retooling of KPC Engineers and as a coach to AMIE students.
Prof. Chakrasali has worked as a member accreditation team constituted by The Institution of Engineers (India) for Electrical Engineering branch to accredit UG program of an Engineering College. He has worked in various capacities at different universities examination work. Presently he is working as Dean (Research, Development and Consultancy) at SDMCET Dharwad, to enhance the research culture and contribution of SDMCET to the world. He is committee member of The IE (I), DLC, Dharwad.

He was awarded his Ph.D. from Visvesvaraya Technological University Belgaum, in the field of renewable energy sources based standalone micro hybrid grid.
Dr. Ramesh Chakrasali has 25 years of teaching experience. He is a fellow of IE (I), IETE and life member of ISTE. His area of interests being power system SCADA, Digital Electronics and Testing and Commissioning of Electrical Equipment and Utilization of Electrical Power. He teaches subjects like Digital Electronics, Digital System Design using VHDL, Computer Networks, and Power System SCADA etc.
Dr. Ramesh has guided more than 40 UG projects and 4 PG projects. Currently 7 students are pursuing their Ph.D. under his guidance in different areas of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
He has published two papers in Elsevier International Journal and three in other international journals. He also has published one paper in national journal and presented 6 papers in national and international conferences.
He has also authored three books viz Basic Electrical engineering, Testing and Commissioning of Electrical Equipment and Electrical Power Utilization. He has coauthored a book on The Constitution of India and Professional Ethics.
Apart from teaching and research he is a regular speaker on domain specific and general engineering related lectures in several conferences, pedagogical trainings and workshops. He also acted as a resource person in retooling of KPC Engineers and as a coach to AMIE students.
Prof. Chakrasali has worked as a member accreditation team constituted by The Institution of Engineers (India) for Electrical Engineering branch to accredit UG program of an Engineering College. He has worked in various capacities at different universities examination work. Presently he is working as Dean (Research, Development and Consultancy) at SDMCET Dharwad, to enhance the research culture and contribution of SDMCET to the world. He is committee member of The IE (I), DLC, Dharwad.
