Prof. A.V.Kulkarni has been Dean (Administration) at SDM College of Engineering & Technology Dharwad, since June 2017. He holds B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from KREC, Surathkal and M.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He served as R&D Engineer in Ductron Castings Limited Hyderabad before joining SDM College of Engineering & Technology in 1986. He has been teaching Mechanical Engineering at SDM College of Engineering &Technology for more than 30 years. Currently he is also a Professor of Mechanical Engineering. His fields of Interest are solid mechanics, computational methods in engineering and engineering education.

He taught courses at both UG and PG level and has guided several M.Tech. Theses. He is coauthor of the book “Primer on Finite elements method” published by Laxmi Publications Delhi, 2011and subsequently by Mercury Learning & Information 2013. He has carried out testing and consultancy works for Orysis Dharwad, KMF Dharwad, A.K Industries Hubli, etc.
He has rendered service at SDM College of Engineering & Technology in various positions such as member of Governing Council, Standing Committee & Academic Council, IQAC Coordinator, Academic Coordinator, TEQIP Nodal Officer, Chief Warden of Hostels, etc. He also served as member of Board of Studies, DUGC, DPGC and BOE in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

He has conducted several workshops on Effective Teaching and organized couple of workshops on Quality Teaching. He received Best Teacher Award twice, in 2008 and 2009 at SDMCET. He also got the recognition for the leadership activities after attending the 2008 Indo-US Engineering Faculty Leadership Institute at the Infosys Mysore Center. He is a Life Member of Indian Society of Technical Education (MISTE) and Member of The Institution of Engineers (India).
