A man of few words, DR. S.B.Vanakudre believes in and lives by the precept, ‘Actions speak louder than words.’
Dr. S.B.Vanakudre completed his bachelors from JSS Science and Technology University or previously known as Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (also known as SJCE) and went on to pursue his Masters in structural engineering at Walchand College of Engineering. He was later awarded his doctorate in Structures from VTU, Belgavi. His wide array of experience includes a couple of years serving in the Industry as a consultant and has over 29 years of experience in teaching at SDM. He started his teaching career as an assistant professor in the civil department. He later on elevated as the Head of Department (HOD) of the Civil Department. He was subsequently given the role of Dean of Infrastructure and Planning. He was a member of the Local Inquiry Committee (LIC) and the research committee. He has been a part of SDM society for more than two decades serving in various capacities.
He has designed over 400 RCC & Steel Structures. He has submitted many technical reports to Government and private agencies over the years. He was on the many technical committees constituted by Government of Karnataka. From 2000 to 2003, he rendered services to CAPART as a facilitator and evaluator in undertaking cost effective construction technology funded by Central Government. Structural Consultancy and Material testing, Mix design of concrete and NDT of structures; meanwhile he also served as structural consultant to many organizations. His area of interests being Reliability Analysis and Design of Structures, Mechanics of Deformable Bodies. He has taught several subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Dr. S.B.Vanakudre has guided more than 40 UG projects and 23 PG projects. Currently 3 students are pursuing their Ph.D. under his guidance in different areas of Civil Engineering. He has penned more than 30 research publications in National and International journals, conferences, and seminars in broad areas of proportion of concrete mixes, rehabilitation and restoration of buildings, different approaches for the analysis of aggregates, analysis and design of different types of steel tresses, seismic evaluation of structures, evaluation of shear walled RCC buildings, finite element analysis of historic buildings and on many such relevant topics. Apart from teaching and research he is a regular speaker on domain specific and general engineering related lectures in several conferences, pedagogical trainings and workshops.
