Kiran.C.Shindhe

Prof. Kiran.C.Shindhe has been in the Institution since 1983 for the past 34 years. In this long period of service he has worked as a teacher, researcher and administrator. He has graduated in Mechanical Engineering in the year 1982 from Karnataka University Dharwad. He has a post graduate degree in Machine Design from IIT Bombay. In the roll as administrator he has worked as Head of the Department, Dean Student Welfare and presently working as Dean Infra structure and Planning and Development.

Academics
He has been teaching Machine design subject and has guided all the students in designs of their projects. With the association of INFOSYS he has introduced industry relevant electives such as Introduction to Aircraft Industry and Design of Aircraft structures. He has worked as chief coordinator of engineering evaluations and headed many committees.

He has been associated with Infosys in its Campus connect program and underwent Faculty development program in Design of Aircraft structures. As a result of introducing this subject in curriculum satisfactorily, he was selected as a student team mentor for the International Aircraft Design competition named as “Spirit Global design competition” for three years. Our college was a part of the international teams which participated and won 1st and 3rd prizes in this competition held in Whichita Kansas USA. INFOSYS India and SPIRIT aero structures USA funded this completion.

TEQIP- participation
He has played an active role in TEQIP – Phase –I of the college as Nodal officer for Community service. He has been responsible for arranging skill upgradation training for Potters and developing a pottery wheel which can work on single phase AC. He is responsible for organizing a novel training programme for the jail inmates of Dharwad district jail inmates in carpentry and welding. The judiciary has reduced the sentence of the inmates who have undergone this training. This initiative has been appreciated by the TEQIP National Project Implementation Unit (NPIU). In the Initial period of TEQIP- Phase 1.2 he was the Nodal officer for Equity Assurance.

Research
He has worked as Research collaborator in an unique International Multi- Disciplinary Research project funded by Department for International Development (DFID) UK. The project was entitled “ Peri- Urban Interface Studies” for a period of 5 years. The project focused on study of Impacts on rural areas as a city expands. As a result of this project he has presented paper in Imperial college of London and written a monograph on Impact of land use. He is associated with researchers from Universities of Wales, Birmingham and University of Agricultural Science.
He was also co-investigator in AICTE TAPTEC funded project on Study of Rain water harvesting in Kuan of Rajasthan. His current interests are in the area of OBE and accreditation he has also publications in this area.
As dean Infrastructure and Planning he is in charge of Campus Infrastructure development and maintenance. He is facilitating the Purchases of departments and sections and in charge of stores and. He is responsible for collating and presenting the college budget.
